Where are you from?
I was born in London and moved to Berlin at the age of 8. My dad owns The Dalston Jazz Bar in London and my mother teaches German. So, I was always exposed to art, music and theatre while growing up. I am grateful to know both countries and it’s this mix that shapes me. London is rich in culture but since it’s so stressful it can be hard to appreciate. Berlin on the other hand, feels like home and it’s almost relaxing in comparison.

Unorthodox is about a Jewish woman who flees her marriage, can you tell us about your experience with this role?
Esther Shapiro is the main character. She flees from a Hasidic Jewish family located in Brooklyn, NY. She's unhappy in an arranged marriage and asks her piano teacher to help her escape. She comes to Berlin where she meets my character and his group of friends. She experiences everything at once that is new to her. They show her a whole new world: clubs, gay friends, and how to live on her own. The story is inspired by Deborah Feldman’s autobiography, Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots (2012). Working on “Unorthodox” was a really refreshing experience, because the cast and crew collectively established an atmosphere in which everybody could deliver their absolute best. The project went on to receive eight Emmy nominations and to win one for Best Director. I am proud to be a part of this exciting journey.

You started your career at a very young age, how did you get into it?
I always enjoyed talking in front of people. A family friend suggested me for a short feature, which led to a role in Speed Racer. Being in my first movie awakened my passion for acting and lead to another part in Alexander Frank's short film The String Puppet. After my A-Levels, I was able to focus on acting and luckily landed my first part in a Netflix series called Dogs of Berlin. Netflix has been quite a good fit and I’ve working with them ever since and How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) is going to be my fourth collaboration. I am very grateful.

You also have an upcoming TV series coming up called “How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)”, can you tell us a little bit about the film and what we can expect from it?
When dumped by his foreign-returned girlfriend, who is now into new experiences, a nerdy teen's attempt to win her back propels him into the business of selling drugs on the dark web, and he eventually becomes one of Europe's youngest and biggest drug dealers. I’ll be part of the third season airing in 2021.

Over the pandemic, is there any hobbies you’ve developed?
I watched a lot of movies and TV. Before the pandemic I regularly went to the cinema. I liked Euphoria and Sex Education. I have been doing a lot of Zoom calls and got a new agency in London. I’m trying to be productive, and watching film entertains, educates, and inspires me.

Can you share some tips for the people who wants to persuade their career as an Actor?
For acting there is no specific path; everyone has a different journey. Don’t listen to people saying, as “this is the only way.” Believe in yourself and find your own path. Getting a good acting education is something I recommend. And a bit of luck always helps.

What’s your life motto?
I always remembered this note a former teacher in primary school told me, “Everyone’s Best Is Different.”
