What pushed you into becoming an actress?
I’ve always been involved in the arts, but it wasn’t until I was in college that the desire to make a career out of acting really materialized. I got to be a part of a really wonderful student film, Sucker Punch, my freshman year, and it was one of my more influential experiences: I realized “this is what I want to do forever!” Everything about the process felt right. The collaboration, being surrounded by creatives, the comradery, and getting to do what I loved.
What did you enjoy the most about Ginny and Georgia did you enjoy the most?
Tonally the show shifts gears constantly. It’s hilarious, dark, sentimental, shocking, and charming all at the same time. Getting to play all of these different notes really keeps me on my toes and allows each day's work to feel totally new.
How does it feel to play a leading role in Ginny and Georgia?
It feels amazing! I think something that makes Ginny and Georgia so unique is the show's ability to be escapism and cathartic at the same time. Knowing the audience is resonating with these characters and their stories while also being distracted from the challenges the world has faced over the last year is a great feeling.
How does it differ from your other roles in the past?
This is my first time playing a mom. Motherhood is something I’ve always looked forward to eventually in my personal life so getting to play the part for Ginny and Georgia brought me so much joy. I loved working with Antonia and Diesel, the actors who played Ginny and Austin, so much and getting to create and embrace the quirks of our beautifully dysfunctional Miller family together.
What your favorite project that you’ve worked on, and why?
Every project has so much to offer whether it’s the people you’re working with, the storyline, or even just the location you get to shoot in. Ginny and Georgia definitely checked all the boxes. I loved working on a show created by women, about women, for everyone. Playing such a dynamic character who is always breaking the rules was thrilling. Then to top it all off Toronto, Canada, was an incredible location to get to shoot and a first for me.
Considering all the characters, you have played so far, which one have you related the most too?
Surprisingly, probably Georgia. Minus the crime, of course. I grew up with a young single mom and also have a little sister who is 15 years younger than I am. Many of the dynamics at play in the relationships on the show have been a naturally built-in part of my life and upbringing. I had my little sister run my audition scenes with me to get a feel for it all.
What’s your favorite part about acting, and why?
It’s one of the few times in life where I’m not in my head and feel the most present and in the moment. Getting to connect with your scene partners and creating with likeminded people is one of the best feelings.
Who’s someone in the entertainment industry who you would love to work with one day?
There’s so many. I’d love to work with Sarah Paulson, Katheryn Hahn, Jordan Peele, I could go on forever. Their work is compelling, smart, and honest.
If you never became an actress, was there another aspiration you wanted to pursue?
Coming from a large family and having so many younger siblings I’ve always gravitated towards kids and would have loved to be a teacher of some kind. Although after Ginny and Georgia maybe not teenagers.
What’s the best advice you have ever received from someone you look up to?
Being a pleasure to work with will get you farther than you know.
What is your life motto?
Trust the process. There are so many unknowns in life the only thing you can do is your best and leave the rest up to the universe.
