Isabella Crovetti

With both parents in the acting industry, it is no surprise that Isabella Crovetti is started her career at the age of five. The children’s show she had been on for the past four years, Vampirina, just ended but she will not be missed for long. He’s All That is out on August 27th, in which she plays Brin Kweller in the teenage rom-com based on the classic She’s All That. Apart from acting, the 16-year-old sings, plays guitar, and plays various sports.

You've had numerous roles and worked on many projects such as playing the young Jennifer Lawrence in Joy, voicing Vampirina, Colony, and Magic Camp, to name a few. What inspired you to become an actor?
I started acting when I was 5. My dad is a producer and my mom is an acting coach and talent manager. I have been around actors and sets my whole life. I loved visiting sets, the energy, people the whole thing. I told my mom I wanted to act and be a part of that world. I have always enjoyed film and TV and to be a part of it really intrigued me.

You'll be starring in the upcoming film "He's All That." Tell us about your role and how it feels to be in such an iconic coming-of-age film.
It feels amazing. I watched the original movie before I auditioned for the part and was so excited when I found out I would get to be a part of it. Brin is a sophomore and the little sister of Cameron, the male lead of the movie, played by Tanner Buchanan. Brin has a very, "in your face" personality. She’s bubbly and sweet, but she is also fiercely protective of her brother. You don’t want to get on her bad side. She has a really special relationship with her brother. They had to deal with some really emotional stuff together and she loves her brother deeply. It is crazy to think that I’m part of a project that’s based around that classic high school rom-com vibe. I always loved watching those classic high school films, now I get to be in one. Life’s crazy man!

As an actor there are a lot of moments where you have to familiarize yourself with rejection. How do you deal with disappointment? Do you ever get discouraged?
I get discouraged all the time. I can be a really sensitive person, and I literally overthink everything. To overcome the harsh reality of the business, I try not to dwell on the bad and look more at all the positive things that have already happened in my career. I turn to my friends and family, and remember I already have so many good things going for me. I am grateful to have so many encouraging people around me.

What is your interpretation process for a role?
I usually base characters off of other characters I’ve seen in movies and TV shows. Then I combine them with real people I know. Usually, they're classmates from my school. I feel like you can always find a lot of interesting personalities at a high school, ha-ha. I combine all those characters and take aspects of myself to create a character. Then I might talk to the writer or director of the film as well as break down the scripts to create my roles.

Are there any specific roles that you would like to tackle?
I really want to do a very realistic, slice of life drama. I love doing very real and genuine acting that people can connect and relate with it. I would say the project I want to do the most is a period piece, like something set in the 1800s. I would like to try and get in the mindset of someone who lived in a completely different time than I do. It would be cool to get to pretend to live in a completely different time that otherwise I’d never get the chance to see and experience. And lastly, I really want to be in a big action movie! My dream is to do cool stunts and be involved in a film with amazing special effects. I'm a sporty person and I haven’t gotten the chance to use that in a project yet, so hopefully I can make that happen.

Is there anyone specific that you’d like to meet through acting? Who would you like to work with?
Well, since he was in a couple shows, does V from BTS count??  Other than him, I’m a huge fan of the Korean actor Song Kang. I really like a lot of the projects he’s in and think he does a great job with his characters. Working with a really good director is definitely a goal for me too, possibly Steven Spielberg. We do have the same birthday so clearly we’re both cool, creative people lol. But seriously, he’s such a veteran in the industry and knows so much. I would love to work with him.

What’s the difference between reality and expectation on set?
A lot of people think set life is glamorous. I mean yes, we do get our hair and makeup done, but there’s more to it than that. Because we need a lot of time to get ready for scenes, sometimes I’d have to wake up at 4 in the morning to get to set by 5, sit in the hair and makeup chair for an hour, and then go straight to set to start working. On top of that I have to do hours of school. Honestly, I can’t remember how much school I needed to do, but usually kids have a lot of hours on top of working. A lot of work goes into prepping for work and building your character. Acting can be very emotional, this sometimes can be emotionally draining and take a lot of energy. It is extremely rewarding but can be a lot of hard work.

Like all humans, actors can’t escape aging. Over time, the roles that you are offered will change. What roles can you envision playing in the future?
A cool grandma who bakes cookies for sure! Although I would also like to tackle some heavier material in the future, which could involve some things I’m a little bit too young for right now if you know what I mean. I would love to grow as an actor as Meryl Streep has done. Every year as you age as an actor it gives you a new opportunity to play a different person going through different things. That sounds amazing to me.

You made the decision to be an actor. Do you have any doubts or fears regarding this choice?
Not gonna lie, yes. I have fears about the future all the time. Just because you’re the best actor doesn’t mean you’ll get the role. Just because you work harder than everyone else, doesn’t mean you’ll be successful. It’s hard to accept, and for me all I want to do is push myself and try super hard to reach my goals. But other than that, acting is what I love. Even with the uncertainty of the future, I know I would much rather be doing this than sitting in class doing math.

Now for your fans! I’d love for you to end this interview with anything that you’d like to share with your fans: about yourself or otherwise
Some interesting things about me are that I really love anime! I feel like I don’t seem like the type that normally would, but if you get to know me and my personality you would understand. I love AOT, HxH, Your Name, and Given. I’m also a fan of K-pop and K-dramas. Right now, I’m in Korea with my Dad and we’ve been living here for about three months. I’m currently studying Korean and my goal is to move here someday for a few years. I’ve made a lot of friends, and my goal is to study hard so I can come back and have a conversation with all my friends in Korean.
