2024 SAG Awards Red Carpet Review

The 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards streamed live on Netflix on February 24, 2024, when actors from film and television came together to honor the best works for the prior year. This year’s ceremony stands out among others because of last year’s lengthy SAG-AFTRA strike that left a lasting impact on the industry. Below are some of my favorite looks and stylists of the night.

Laverne Cox in Alexander McQueen, styled by Christina Pacelli

Actress and E! red carpet host Laverne Cox wore a stunning matador jacket off the runway from McQueen’s fall 1996 Dante collection. Her stacked black choker from vintage John Galliano for Christian Dior complemented the archival jacket, along with her velvet Morgan Foote maxi skirt. Cox’s penchant for vintage clothing shone on the carpet as one of the night’s best dressed stars.

Maddie Ziegler in Alexander McQueen, styled by Jared Ellner

Dancer and actress Maddie Ziegler also wore vintage McQueen on the SAG Awards carpet, this time from his spring 2003 collection. The dress’s ruffled shoulder and shredded detailing cascaded beautifully to the floor and was sourced from Shrimpton Couture.

Anne Hathaway in Atelier Versace, styled by Erin Walsh

Actress Anne Hathaway wore couture Versace from spring 2015, paired with more than a eight carat Bulgari Serpenti necklace. Erin Walsh told The Hollywood Reporter that she and Hathaway wanted to reference “archive cerulean blue Versace” when Hathaway presented an award with “The Devil Wears Prada” co-stars Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt.

Greta Lee in The Row, styled by Danielle Goldberg

Greta Lee, known for her role in “Past Lives” and her effortless yet sophisticated red carpet looks, wore a pastel off-the-shoulder dress from The Row’s 2024 Resort season. Paired with the stacked leather gloves and a wispy middle part hairstyle, she perfectly balanced elegance with a bit of edge.

Ayo Edebiri in Luar, styled by Danielle Goldberg

Ayo Edebiri graced the carpet wearing a dress from Luar’s fall 2023 collection, also styled by Danielle Goldberg. The runway look has the model wearing the hood, with her shoulders covered. Edebiri wore the hood down, letting her graceful waves flow past her shoulders as she accepted the award for Outstanding Performance by a “Female Actor in a Comedy Series” for her role as Sydney Adamu in “The Bear.”

PhotoBook’s Top Brand:
Giorgio Armani Privé

Giorgio Armani Privé is a mainstay on red carpets, and the 2024 SAG Awards is another addition to the brand’s dazzling roster. Elizabeth Debicki, Jessica Chastain, Carey Mulligan, and Lily Gladstone all wore an outfit from the couture house for this year’s ceremony.

Elizabeth Debicki wore a semi-sheer silvery blue gown and accepted the Best Actress in a Drama series award for her role as Princess Diana in “The Crown.” Her backless gown needed no accessories, as its sparking beading stood strong on its own.

Carey Mulligan wore a champagne Giorgio Armani Privé gown from the spring 2024 couture collection. Her blunt cut bob paired with a 1930s René Boivin gold and diamond necklace work well together.

Lily Gladstone won “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role” for her work in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” while wearing a vibrant red silk dress. The fringe-hem dress was paired with colorful “stained-glass inspired” earrings designed by Molly Murphy-Adams.

PhotoBook’s Top FOUR Best Styling

One: Danielle Goldberg styling Ayo Edebiri and Greta Lee

Goldberg styled Edebiri’s patterned dress with a classic strappy black heel, which let the dress’s ruching and flowy train shine. Lee’s necklace-free look put the spotlight on her textured dress.

Two: Chloe Keiko Takayanagi styling Sterling K. Brown

Sterling K. Brown wore a suave black velvet Christian Dior suit with a bowtie. The jewels Aficionado brooch, David Yurman cufflinks and Omega Speedmaster 57 made for a charming ensemble.

Three: Elizabeth Stewart styling Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain, self-proclaimed “Gucci girl,” wore a beautiful black lace Armani Privé dress, showing that no matter what designer she’s styled in, she’ll still look stunning. Chastain’s middle part and 20 carat diamond necklace from De Beers was perfectly delicate.

Four: Jamie Mizrahi styling Jeremy Allen White

Mizrahi took fans behind the scenes of her work with Jeremy Allen White for this year’s award show. She paired White’s crisp suit from Saint Laurent with a glowing Tiffany and Co. brooch and watch. Black leather boots finished off the look with a nice contrast to the white suit.

In conclusion, the stars shone bright on the SAG Awards Red Carpet, from monochrome to textured styles. In addition to the immeasurable talent awarded at the ceremony, the range of styles was award-worthy as well.
