A Look at the New York City Ballet’s Fall Gala and the Red Carpet Looks of the Stars
On October 5th, the New York City Ballet celebrated its 75th anniversary at the Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater. The gala was to “honor the Co-Founding choreographers, George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins, fashion, and New York City,” stated by the New York City Ballet on its website. The celebration included a red carpet, with A-list celebrities in attendance, and performances of Balanchine's "Who Cares" and Robbins’ "Glass Pieces."
The event was extravagant and elegant, with many in attendance to appreciate the art of ballet. While many professional dancers performed, some celebrities took to the stage as well. Some of the special guest vocalists included Broadway legend: Patti Lupone; Vanessa Williams, actress and singer; Joshua Henry, actor and musician. Keeping connection with the ballet, they sang Gershwin pieces and Balanchine's "Who Cares."
During another part of the event, a red carpet highlighted the Fall fashion gala. Many stars were dressed in their best, posing for photos. Keeping the connection with ballet and the original costuming, Wes Gordon designed a modern update to the original looks for Balanchine's “Who Cares”. With fashion pulled into the event, the red carpet showcased many elegant and chic looks. One main look was that of Sarah Jessica Parker. As the Vice Chair of the NYC Ballet Board of Directors, she came dressed to impress. She wore a Carolina Herrera black dress with tutu skirt and large satin bow in her hair. She also wore mismatched heels from her own collection. The tutu gives a nod to the original ballerina costume, and the color choice can also give a nod to The Black Swan.
