Barshai Explores The Life Of The Famous “Dollar Princess” Consuelo Vanderbilt For SS25

Barshai unveiled its Spring / Summer 2025 collection with an immersive NYFW presentation at St. Marks Church-in-the-Bowery. The collection, “Pennies from Heaven” was inspired by the 1930s song of the same name. The collection also shines a light on the life of the popular “Dollar Princess” Consuelo Vanderbilt. Through three acts and 12 looks, Barshai showcases her life from childhood into adulthood, with models portraying important moments in her life. The first act includes white and navy representing Consuelo under her mother’s authority. The second act uses umber, teal, and sage to commemorate Consuelo’s early adulthood. The final act uses embroidered and printed pennies to honor her late adulthood. The collection also reflects the 1920s “new woman” and the liberation of women becoming more independent.

"For Spring / Summer 2025, I decided to embrace the concept of unexpected good fortune, but with the understanding that even when it rains good news, they are only pennies from heaven,” says Erik Barshai in a press release. “This season, we focused on ‘flow,’ emphasizing soft wovens and the fluidity of movement, while continuing to push the boundaries of couture tailoring.”
