Tell us about yourself?
I'm a chaser on ABC's hit game show, ”The Chase,” and I'm the all-time leading money-winner on Jeopardy.”
I understand that since high school you have been on a quiz team. What drew you to this sort of work?
I've always enjoyed knowing things, so when I got to high school and saw there was an opportunity to show that off, I couldn't resist.
How do you prepare for the competition? Are you an avid reader?
I do read a lot and watch a lot of documentaries. I'd say 90% of the things I know are from just encountering knowledge I'm interested in. There are some things you can study, though.
How did you get to star on the Jeopardy show. What does it take?
First you have to take a test and pass an audition. Once you're on the show you obviously need to know a lot, but you also have to be good at the buzzer timing. Most of the time all three contestants are trying to ring in, but the one who timed it best is the only one who gets to respond.
Do you like competing on these shows or do you find it stressful?
It was definitely stressful at first! But I've been doing it for so long now that it's become an enjoyable day at the office.
Tell about this season with “The Chase,” any new details?
Well, we have three new Chasers joining James Holzhauer and me. They're all trivia monsters in their own right and they've been killing it. They're all super fun both on and off the air as well. And the casting staff continues to find more and more fabulous contestants for us.
How did you get into acting?
I'd done some hosting and was going on auditions for that when my agent told me I should take some acting classes. I did, and just fell in love with it.
How do you prepare for a role?
It's all about figuring out what the character wants and why. There are literally infinite possibilities, and that's what I love about the artistic challenge. The more of myself I bring to the role, the better my performance will be.
Who is your inspiration?
This might sound slightly corny, but it's Alex Trebek. I was privileged to see him bring his professionalism and passion to his job more than most, and I just admired him so much. They don't make them like him anymore.
What message would you want to give to your fans?
Thank you for all the support over the years. It's truly appreciated and it never gets old.
