Chloe Coleman, is a rising star from Los Angeles, who is taking the acting world by storm. She has been blessed with talent that has landed her in roles in such notable projects as “Big Little Lies”, “My Spy,” a recent cameo in “Avatar: The Way of Water” and Netflix’s upcoming “Pain Hustlers.” She can currently be seen in theatres in Sony’s sci-fi thriller “65” alongside Adam Driver and later this month in “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” opening on March 31. She appears in the movie with veteran actors Chris Pine, Hugh Grant, and Michelle Rodriguez among others.

What was it like when you first got the call that you had been cast in “Dungeons and Dragons”?
I was ecstatic and so thrilled to be cast in such a fantastical period piece! I really loved the role of Kira and could not believe I was going to Ireland with this epic ensemble cast to be immersed in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. It was a next-level dream come true. I love fantasy, and mystical creatures and this movie takes it to a whole other level.

Your parents are established figures in film and TV. Would you say this has had an enormous influence on your choice to become an actress?
I’d say yes. Because I was on set many times with my parents, I really got to see what the TV and movie world is like, and I felt comfortable there. It all fascinated me and something inside when I was younger, told me that this is what I wanted to do. Now it has become the biggest part of my life.

Have you ever played the “Dungeons and Dragons” board game or video game?
When I booked the role of Kira, to familiarize myself, I started playing with the director Jonathan Goldstein’s son and my sister. We have a skilled Dungeon Master Simon Alexander, who would weave these amazingly detailed adventures for us, and we played weekly. No one plays the game in the movie though. Rather the Honor Among Thieves story is set in the mystical Dungeons and Dragons world. It’s surreal and everyone of any age is going to love it.

Preparing for a film seems rigorous. What does a day-to-day schedule look like?
Oh my. Depending on how many new skills are involved in the making of any film I like to train and train with stunts until I’m comfortable. I prefer to do my own stunts whenever possible and then when you add school, memorizing, rehearsal, hair, make up and wardrobe, it can get quite rigorous!

Tell us about your new, upcoming movie, “Dungeons and Dragons”?
“Dungeons and Dragons” is an epic film about a band of misfits who must work together to defeat the greatest evil the world has ever known. This movie is pure cinematic joy for anyone of any age. Fans and non-fans of “Dungeons and Dragons”. It doesn’t matter. You will find it hysterical, moving, and wildly action packed. It is the filmmakers’ gift to the world.

Tell us about the character you play in the movie?
My character Kira is the daughter of Chris Pine, who plays Edgin the Bard. Without giving anything way, I can tell you that family is important to Edgin. The story is so well told and Kira and the whole team have many uphill battles. Kira is strong and is an important piece to the puzzle.

What was your favorite part of working on this film?
My favorite part of working on “Dungeons and Dragons” was working with directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.  These guys are GENIUSES, pure and simple, and I’m thrilled I got to work with them. They brought together a beautiful ensemble cast that brings this inconceivable world to life. They made a crazily elevated movie with incredible performances, jaw-dropping worlds, mystical creatures, the biggest laughs, and even a few tears. But they do it so well and it was always so much fun to come to work.

We can see you in theaters now in the film “65”. Do you find scenes that require a lot of emotion challenging?
Filming “65” had some challenging scenes for me. I find challenging scenes the most satisfying. Emotionally, my character goes through a full arc, and I had the opportunity to improv quite a bit. The directors, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, just let me riff and that was incredibly freeing as an actor. I really enjoyed working like that.

What was one valuable takeaway for you, from working with Adam Driver?
I’m so grateful to have experienced working with Adam. He really reinforced my outlook on acting and my overall process. Seeing how seriously he takes his craft awakened a new level of awareness within me for how I approach acting. He’s a very generous scene partner and uber authentic. I respect him very much and would love to work with him again in the future.

You’ve been able to work with some veteran actors. Has anyone offered you any advice on your budding career that you can share with us?
Jean-Marc Vallee from “Big Little Lies” took time not just for me but all of us BLL kids. Getting to experience his passion for storytelling, music, and life in general was literally like no one else. He’d always say, “remember, it’s important to work a little bit and play a little bit. Take time to be a kid too.” And by the way he was, I learned that the filmmaking, when it was happening, was the most important thing, but life and the people around you are also the most important thing.

Do you feel you are similar or different from your characters?
This may sound whacky, but I always find facets of myself or a common thread between me and my character, an alter ego, or split personality of someone I could be in an alternate universe. However, it’s always me at the core, so I would say I feel similar. I must find real connections to the character for it to work.

Which part of your job do you enjoy the most?
My job is to serve a character and do it while being genuine and grounded. I don’t care about being famous or a “star”. That is not acting or being an artist. So, the part I enjoy the most is being deep in the character’s world and fulfilling the goals or tasks needed to bring the character to life.

How do you balance school and being an actress?
It takes a lot of time management to balance schooling and being an actress because I love school and school comes first. I refuse  not go to attend a normal school, even though I may miss three months at a time, I’m still enrolled and on campus for at least part of the year. It’s particularly important to me to keep learning and getting all the (good and bad) experiences that come with attending a normal school with other kids my age.

What has been your favorite part of being an actress so far?
I’ve enjoyed the process of every project to the fullest. For me, the people I work with and where I work are most important. I’ve met some people who have changed my life and make me wonder where I would be without them. Traveling is such a big bonus because I get to see parts of the world that not everyone gets to see. Acting is such a huge gift within itself, it’s provided me with so many opportunities and moments that make me who I am.

If you could pick your dream actress or actor to work with, who would it be, and why?
I don’t have to think twice: Julie Andrews. I’ve said this so many times, but she is my number one inspiration in acting and has been my favorite actress since I was a child. I watched the “Sound of Music” more times than you can say “Do-re-mi”, and it holds such a special place in my heart. I would love to work with, or even just get to talk to her. This is my dream.

Your cover was shot on location in South Africa, can you tell us why you are there and what it felt like doing this photo session on location?
Right now, I’m on location in South Africa filming “My Spy 2” and it’s just magical here. Being here for this photoshoot with photographer Nina Zimolong is a once in a lifetime gift. The people here are lovely and the landscape is stunning. This has been my favorite photoshoot!

Your hair is beautifully braided, is that for a role? Have you braided your hair in this way before?
Lately, in my teenage years I’ve been playing more with braided hairstyles and it opens up a lot of new looks for certain characters. The braids are very protective for my natural curls because I don’t have to apply heat or detangle while they’re in. I'm having fun exploring all the new style possibilities.
