Describe your next EP, “Oh to Be in Love.”
It is a compilation of songs that shows multiple sides of falling in love.: how good things can come from bad things, and vice versa.
Do you have a favorite track from the EP?
Bad Haircut! It's a song I wrote a long time ago in my bedroom and I loved how JVKE added to it.
What was your inspiration for the song?
I met someone who one day they had a haircut and everyone was roasting this person but for some reason. I thought he still looked good and then i realized that reason was because I was in love, ha-ha.
What was your song writing process for “Oh to be in Love?”
All the songs, except for Bad Haircut, were written in the first two weeks I moved back to Los Angeles. I just had a lot to say and I was finally able to go in the studio again since I was in Indonesia for the pandemic. It felt like everything came to me so easily.
What did you enjoy most about putting together this EP?
Finally realizing the kind of music that I wanted to make. For the first time in my career, I was completely certain about the vibe I was going for and I can see myself making this EP again years into the future.
What are you excited for your fans to experience with the release of “Oh to be in Love?”
Having songs to listen to when they are falling in love. There are a lot of amazing breakup songs right now, and I’d love to give them a vibe for the opposite end.
How do you typically find inspiration for your music?
Lots of random melodies would come to me throughout the day, so I have a lot of voice notes of catchy sounds I hear.
Do you have any dream artists to collaborate with?
Lizzy McAlpine and Gracie Abrams are my two favorites right now.
How have you seen yourself grow as an artist since your breakout hit “I Love You 3000?”
Yes and also as a person. I think I’m a lot more comfortable with who I am now because of that song, Beforehand, I had a lot of insecurities because of the pressure I felt having to live up to it. Now I am more content with the trajectory I'm going in.
What are your other goals as an artist?
I'd love to start writing for other artists. It's my dream.
