Emmys Red Carpet Review: 2024
On Monday night, after being postponed from September 18, 2023, due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Hollywood finally celebrated the incredible actors, actresses, writers, and directors of television. After waiting for their moment to shine for four months, the stars brought their best to the Emmys red carpet.
Photobook’s Top Five Best Dressed
Simona Tabasco in Marni styled by Ramona Tabita. The White Lotus actress and supporting actress in a drama series gave a fresh twist on the floral trend. Her Marni gown is a patchwork of floral appliques arranged to look like a collage of stickers. The avant-garde dress is the perfect way to make your Emmy debut unforgettable.
Donald Glover in Bode styled by Ilaria Urbinati. His velvet Bode set is a refreshing departure from the usual tuxedos of red-carpet menswear. The delicate floral embroidery, a signature of the brand, and the relaxed silhouette make for a standout red carpet look.
Aubrey Plaza in Loewe styled by Jessica Paster. Loewe has become a standout brand this year, with many celebrities taking their unconventional looks to the red carpet. Plaza, known for her quirky deadpan humor, was a perfect fit to continue their streak of amazing red-carpet moments. This particular dress features an optical illusion of an oversized pin holding up the bib of the dress.
Claire Danes in Balmain styled by Petra Flannery. Nominee Danes exuded elegance and glamor in a baby pink Balmain gown. A simple column gown from the front is elevated by the cross-draped back with embellished shoulder details giving Danes a 360° stunning look.
Rachel Brosnahan in Versace styled by Sarah Slutsky. Her deep purple gown from Versace was an immediate eye-catcher. The juxtaposition of the perfectly fitted and structured corset and the flowing skirt was a masterclass in sexy dressmaking, what Versace does best.
Photobook’s Top Brand: Christian Dior
Dior had a big night of red-carpet moments. Quinta Brunson took home the Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy, making her the first black woman in more than 30 years to do so. She wore a precious pink tea-length gown from the brand. Nominees Jenna Ortega and Elizabeth Debicki both wore custom Dior Haute Couture gowns. Dior even had a menswear moment on The White Lotus’ Adam DiMarco.
Photobook’s Top Five Best Styling
Rebecca Grice styling Sarah Snook in Vivienne Westwood. Snook has been sweeping her category for her portrayal of Shiv Roy in “Succession” and this regal Vivienne Westwood ballgown was the perfect choice for her to take home the Emmy. The classic Vivienne Westwood corset silhouette and full skirt is a timeless classic and pairing it with a diamond and emerald necklace topped the look off perfectly.
Erin Walsh styling Selena Gomez in Oscar de la Renta. Since Walsh started styling Gomez in June 2023, the pair have become a fashion duo to watch. This custom Oscar de la Renta nude illusion gown embellished with 450,000 deep red sequins was stunning but paired with a matching lipstick, heels, and a 35-carat morganite stone at the center of the Tiffany & Co. diamond necklace, this look became one of the standouts in styling.
Wayman and Micah styling Colman Domingo in Louis Vuitton. Domingo is one of the best dressed men in Hollywood and stylist duo Wayman and Micah are one of the reasons why. This Louis Vuitton look could’ve easily blended in with the standard tux looks of the night but the length of the jacket and the added jewelry gave some added visual interest.
Wayman and Micah styling Niecy Nash in Greta Constantine. Nash won her first Emmy in a perfectly fitted velvet gown by Greta Constantine with matching gloves. The ruffles on the gloves mirroring the silhouette of the gown are such a fun touch and the brushed-out waves were the perfect way to complete this classic Hollywood glam look.
Elizabeth Stewart styling Jessica Chastain in Gucci. Jessica Chastain has remained a face of Gucci through the creative director shift from Alessandro Michele to Sabato De Sarno and her stylist Elizabeth Stewart has made sure that the transition was as seamless and fashionable as possible for her. This lime green sequined gown with beaded fringe was paired with a chunky earring to balance the visual weight of the bottom of the dress and sleek hair and makeup to not compete with the bold look.
In sum, ranging from avant-garde to old Hollywood chic, there was an amazing array of styles on the red carpet and many people put their spin on this season’s biggest trends. Overall, the Emmys were definitely worth the wait.
