Golden Globes 2024: Fashion Review

The new year kicked off to a great start at the 2024 Golden Globes, which took place on Sunday, January 7th. While last year’s Writer’s Guild and SAG-AFTRA strikes temporarily paused movie and television production, the industry certainly didn’t disappoint on the red carpet at this year’s Golden Globes. Before entering the venue, each celebrity posed against a backdrop of beautiful white and pink roses, flaunting gorgeous designs that likely forecasted upcoming trends.

PhotoBook rounds up some of the best, stand-out looks.  First, the Top five Best Dressed

First, Rachel Brosnahan in custom Sergio Hudson styled by Alexandra Mandelkorn. She looked absolutely breathtaking in this red carpet in a custom gown by Sergio Hudson, which featured an off-the-shoulder neckline and buttons that cascaded from the top of the dress down to the slit, which revealed her leg below the hip line. The nominee was styled by Alexandra Mandelkorn, who had her hair tied up perfectly with a red bow.

Second, Julianne Moore in custom Bottega Veneta styled by Kate Young. The color red is certainly having a moment, and  Moore embraced it at the Golden Globes. The May December actress wore a beautiful, strapless Bottega Veneta gown, complete with a Cartier necklace set with white and yellow diamonds. Her hair was strategically pulled back to showcase her natural beauty.

Third, Jennifer Lopez in custom Nicole Felicia Couture styled by Rob Zangari. Some celebrities never miss, and she fits within this category. Lopez wore a chic, custom pink gown designed by Nicole Felicia Couture. Bringing Zendaya’s look from the 2023 SAG awards to mind, her look was topped off with a bolero made completely of silk, pink roses and her hair was styled with loose, Hollywood waves.

Four, Timothée Chalamet in custom Celine Homme by Hedi Slimane. The Wonka star certainly dazzled the red carpet in a sequined blazer by Celine Homme. He wore it over a barely-buttoned, black-button down shirt and a pair of skinny trousers for an overall youthful look. His look is at the top of our list because it nicely pulled off the recent trend of laid-back luxury.

Five, Elizabeth Debicki in Dior Haute Couture styled by Elizabeth Saltzman. This look was probably my favorite. While the Australian actress described the Dior gown as “a little heavy” in an interview, she went on to explain that the minimal discomfort was well worth it because of how beautiful she felt wearing it. Like many stars at the event, Debocki wore minimal makeup and left her hair in simple, straight tresses that brushed her face.

PhotoBook’s Top Brand: Prada

Prada took the award for the best brand on the red carpet. It communicated sheer elegance with monochromatic gowns that had simple but effective silhouettes, shedding light on the stars themselves rather than distracting onlookers with loud displays of opulence. From Hunter Schafer’s translucent dress which waved ethereally in the wind to Brie Larson’s old-Hollywood-inspired, lilac satin gown, Prada calculated each of its looks to a tee. It also dressed Hailee Steinfeld in a custom, pink column dress and sheer black gloves, a look reminiscent of the Breakfast at Tiffany’s star, Audrey Hepburn.

Hailee Steinfeld

PhotoBook’s Top Five Best Stylist

Martha Ward did an excellent job at dressing Gillian Anderson in a chic, white gown with beautiful, custom embroidery by Gabriela Hearst. Anderson’s  hair was brushed back and left down for the ultimate, old Hollywood look. My favorite part of this ensemble is the small, metallic clutch by Aquazurra which mirrored the lush red carpet.

Among Jennifer Lopez and Hailee Steinfeld, Rob Zangardi styled Heidi Klum. Each look is so different yet surpasses the bar within that aesthetic. Whereas Lopez projected a soft, romantic look, Klum served absolute drama in a voluminous, red gown by Sophie Couture. Steinfeld’s ensemble, on the other hand, was rather sentimental, offering an updated version of the Givenchy gown that Hepburn famously wore.

Kate Young dressed Julianna Moore in Bottega Veneta and Cartier. Proving yet again that the color red and Cartier jewelry go together like peanut butter and jelly, this look is also an example of how less is more when it comes to styling. Young accessorized the actress with simple makeup, small diamond studs, and a slick-back ponytail to create an overall unprocessed look.

Leith Clark did something remarkable when he dressed Rosamund Pike for the night. He collaborated with hatmaker Philip Treacy to design a beautiful headpiece, featuring black flower appliques that were inspired by the embroidery of the Dior dress she wore. Pike’s look turned heads all night because of its simultaneous inventiveness and timelessness.
