Grammys Red Carpet Review: 2024
On Sunday night, the biggest stars in music joined together to celebrate the songs and albums that soundtracked our lives for the year. The Grammy’s are heralded as the biggest night in music so all eyes are on the red carpet to see how the nominees will be dressed to potentially secure one of the most prestigious honors in music.
PhotoBook’s Top 4 Best Dressed
Caroline Polachek in vintage Olivier Theyskens styled by Kat Typaldos
A vintage gown on a red carpet will rarely be a miss, but it’s equally as rare for it to be as big of a hit as this. This Fall 1998 gown by Olivier Theyskens, a rare designer to see pulled from the archives made an instant impression on me. The gothic glamor of the high neck with a lace-covered cutout is a perfect way to combine Polachek’s personal style with the formality of the event.
Janelle Monae in Giorgio Armani styled by Alexandra Mandelkorn
Janelle Monae is known for her black and white red carpet looks and this Giorgio Armani gown is another gorgeous addition to her collection. The fully embellished gown sparkles on its own but the simple addition of a choker was the perfect addition to finish off the look.
Halle Bailey in Gucci styled by Nicky Goodman
Largely known for her role as Ariel in The Little Mermaid, Halle Bailey’s glittery Gucci gown is a perfect throughline connecting her recent breakout role to her bold and daring music career. The silhouette and sheerness of the dress are a perfect representation of the mature sound of her music.
Taylor Swift in Schiaparelli styled by Joseph Cassell
Taylor Swift made history as the artist with the most Album of the Year Grammys ever this year and this look seems to be an homage to that. The draping of the gown is almost reminiscent of marble statues and paired with the opera gloves it certainly screams music royalty. The watch choker set to midnight as a nod to the title of the album that she won for was also a sweet touch.
PhotoBook’s Top Brand
Versace is a foolproof red carpet brand so it’s not hard to see why first-time winners like Victoria Monét and Tyla turn to the brand. The brand also has an extensive and iconic archive so it’s always fun to see stars pull from there, as Olivia Rodrigo did with her Spring 1995 gown.
PhotoBook’s Top 5 Best Styling
Bradley Kenneth styling Miley Cyrus in Maison Margiela, Tom Ford, vintage Bob Mackie and Gucci
Bradley Kenneth put together four amazing looks for first-time winner Miley Cyrus. The custom safety pin dress by Margiela, chic Tom Ford jumpsuit, vintage Bob Mackie dress, and Gucci gown all fit her rocker flair perfectly.
Micaela Erlanger styling Kelly Clarkson in Jason Wu
Kelly Clarkson’s old Hollywood waves and smoky eyes were the perfect complement to her timeless off-the-shoulder gown. I can’t help but note the similarity to the neckline of Princess Diana’s “Revenge Dress” as Clarkson was nominated for an album about her tumultuous relationship.
Rodney Burns styling Lenny Kravitz
Lenny Kravitz’s rockstar look styled by Rodney Burns breaks the mold of a full one-designer outfit that usually takes over red carpets. A leather Rick Owens shrug, a Maison Margiela top, and Chrome Hearts pants all come together for a perfectly cohesive look.
Andrew Mukamal styling Billie Eilish
Andrew Mukamal, the man behind Margot Robbie’s Barbie replica outfits, did the same for Billie Eilish at the Grammys. While performing “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack, Eilish was dressed in a custom replica of 1965’s “Poodle Parade” Barbie.
Jyotisha Bridges styling Coco Jones in Celia Kritharioti
This sparkling blue gown with a plunging neckline showing off a body chain made sure that first-time winner Coco Jones stood out at the ceremony.
From formal gowns to references to musical icons and idols, the Grammys red carpet has a diversity rarely seen on red carpets. The diversity of style perfectly reflects the diverse musicians being honored making for an exciting night all around.
