Designer Emma Gage Debuted her Spring 2024 Collection for her brand Melke at Spring Studios
Designer Emma Gage debuted her Spring 2024 collection for her brand Melke at Spring Studios surrounded by an abundance of lush greenery and human-sized milk cartons. Inspired by one of Gage’s favorite childhood memories of watching Elton John perform “Crocodile Rock” on The Muppet Show, this collection is an explosion of color, texture, and pure fun. The collection is full of the childlike whimsy of The Muppets and the camp aesthetic of Elton John. A wrap skirt of a crocodile head with bejeweled eyes and teeth is paired with an equally absurd tube top being held up by the full body of a crocodile draped around the model’s neck. Gage continues to play with print, a staple for the brand, with a cropped floral jacket featuring three-dimensional embroidered appliques worn with star print pants, one leg in black and white, the other in a rainbow of color. Melke’s other signature, a chunky knit sweater with embroidered patches. It also makes a return this season as a sweater vest with embroidered crocodiles. The brand’s dedication to sustainability is prevalent as well. The opening look, an embellished yellow gown, is made from 100% natural materials. The 100% organic cotton tulle is adorned with beetle wings and naturally dyed feathers shed from rescue emus. Cruelty-free fashion is always in style!
If I were to describe this collection in one word it would be joyful. Everything from the bright colors and funky patterns to the fringe and rhinestones makes me think of a little kid playing dress-up. Not caring about what anyone else thinks, just having fun. And that’s what fashion needs more of:: pure, unashamed fun.
