Revell Carpenter

Have you always wanted to be in the acting/film industry?
Yes! It’s absolutely always been my dream to act in movies. I asked for my first headshots when I was 6 years old. Although not until I was in my twenties did I have the self-confidence or courage to pursue it full time.
What is your favorite part about work in the entertainment industry?
I love that no two projects are the same. I get to meet so many new people, experience new places and sets, and take on characters vastly different from myself. Impossible to get bored!
Who is your role model in the entertainment industry, and why?
I have MANY role models in the industry. Charlize Theron has always been my inspiration, since I was first learning about film acting. She does it all and really represents girl power to me. But truly everyone who chooses to pursue acting is so brave. I have so much respect for every actor I work with.
Do you relate to your character Ashley in “Malicious Motives?”
I definitely related to Ashley. She goes through a LOT in the film. Life-saving surgery, the death of her brother. Through it all though, she stays strong for the sake of her family. I like to think I’d be able to overcome anything to protect my family too.
What has been your favorite project to work on?
Oh wow. It’s so hard to pick a favorite. They are all so different and so satisfying when the work is done. I’d have to say “Cupcake,” a dark comedy I worked on with the team from HBO’s “Righteous Gemstones” was definitely a highlight for me this past year. I played a southern belle murdering men with poisonous cupcakes!
What is a day of shooting like for you?
It depends on the project, but for the Lifetime films, we shoot them super quickly (under a month of filming), so they are jam packed and pretty intense. If we don’t have to shoot at night, usually it’s an 8 or 9am call, hair and makeup (usually my favorite people on set are hair & makeup) for about an hour, then we do a blocking rehearsal with the director and camera crew so they can set up lighting. Then we shoot the scene. Then do that all over again. Since we shoot these so fast, sometimes we’re covering 7 or 8 pages a day.
Do you enjoy being in New York or Los Angles more?
I am extremely biased because I am a born and raised New Yorker, but definitely New York. The simplest reason is that I love to walk and hate driving.
What keeps you motivated in the entertainment industry?
That’s a good question! There are a lot of peaks and valleys in this industry, and it’s not always a meritocracy. It’s definitely easy to get down on yourself when the right roles aren’t materializing for a few months. It always just comes back to the fact that I am so lucky to get to pursue my dream every day. And there is nothing I’d rather do. There’s also something incredible about having a film I put so much work into come out on television or in a theater—very reinvigorating.
Who would you love to work with in the future?
Baz Luhrmann! And Sir Anthony Hopkins.
What would you be doing if you weren’t in the entertainment industry?
I’d probably be back in finance - ugh! I worked at a Big 4 accounting firm straight out of college before I was ready to take the leap into films. So grateful every day to be acting instead.
