Why did you decide to pursue a career in music?
I have loved music ever since I was a little kid. I was always singing to friends at our house, family gatherings, and even to strangers during holiday vacation. I owe it to my Mom, who was the first one to believe in me and to trust that I had a such a deep connection with music that I could pursue career in it. The first experience that made me decide to pursue a career in music was playing the lead role in a high school musical rendition we had at my school.
What is your biggest accomplishment in music?
My biggest accomplishment in music so far has been connecting with millions of people through my songs. There is nothing like the feeling of having something you have written, performed, or sung by another person because it touches their own life. I still have a long way to go in my career, but I am sure that connection will always rank up top
What does the song “Pareja Del Año” and its success mean to you?
”Pareja Del Año" is my biggest song yet. Considering the times in which we are living (Covid, quarantine, restrictions, etc.) everything around the song has been super special. It is absolutely crazy to think that we wrote it on a boat!
I truly appreciate having Myke Towers on the song. I always imagined the song as a duet, and I really wanted to find an opportunity to work with Myke. Once we begin discussing a collaboration, we found out we had several things in common and when we were recording, our chemistry and friendship kept on growing. I’m sure we will keep on collaborating in the future. I recently sang Pareja with him in Madrid.
How does it feel to receive international success for your song releases and being celebrated and honored on so many leaderboards?
The recognition is nice and I’m truly grateful. However, I believe the true success in all of this is the connection through music. That no matter how tough times get we will always have this safe haven of music. That music will always be there for us as a manifestation of love for one another.
What are you most looking forward to on tour with Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias?
I grew up listening and looking up at these guys, dreaming that one day I would be up there with them. It is absolutely unreal to be touring with Ricky and Enrique, for the three of us to be sharing the stage.
I’m really enjoying sharing the experience with them, being on the road and performing together. We recently did a live broadcast and some wagers were made, hehe.
All in all, I feel privileged to share this tour with two of my heroes, two of the biggest artists in history.
How did the release of your hit, “Chica Ideal,’ and its success during a pandemic impact your career this year?
"Chica Ideal” has given me nothing but joy. It was such an enjoyable experience to have my friend, Guaynaa, along for the ride too. It was also a bit surreal to experience all that happened with its release during Covid and to have such a 'feel good' song impact so deeply.
I was lucky to be able to tour Spain during the summer, and each and every show in which we got "Chica Ideal” into our set was an absolute blast. The energy that the song produces with the audience, the band, and the dancers it is just amazing and a blast to perform.
Your music is known for crossing different musical genres. What has been your favorite collaboration, and who would you like to work with in the future?
Each and every collaboration I´ve done so far has been unique and special to me. I couldn’t, for the life of me, single one out.
As I mentioned earlier, there is still a very long road for me to walk in this career and one of the thing that truly excite me about it is the opportunity to create alongside people I admire. I would love to collaborate with Ed Sheeran, for example, or Harry Styles, both of whom I admire for their artistry, music, and visual style.
You recently released a ballad, “Tarde,” and your latest release is an up-beat pop track “Tacones Rojos.” How do you decide the vibe of a song when you’re in the studio?
Sometimes I get to the studio with a clear idea of what I want to work on at a style, a certain line, even a vibe. Other times I just let things flow to see what happens. It is not that you need to be happy to write a happy song or sad to write a sad one, but certainly the events in your day-to-day affect the way you perceive your surroundings. Your thought process just flows differently under different conditions: the country you are in and the people you are working with.
Both "Tarde and, my next single, "Tacones Rojos" are so unique, so different in comparison to anything I´ve done before. Both are deeply powerful, one being very intense and the other a burst of joy and good vibes.
What do you hope to achieve in the future as you continue to release music?
I hope I’m able to keep growing as an artist, as a performer. I want to keep challenging myself not only with music but also with acting and growing as a person.
I really want to keep pushing myself doing things I haven’t done yet, giving everyone who streams my music or who buys a ticket to a show a more powerful and deep experience.
What’s next for you?
I will be releasing a new record in the following months, with a lot of songs I´m truly proud to present. Around Spring 2022, the series “Érase Una Vez Pero Ya No,” directed by Manolo Caro, will be released on Netflix and I couldn’t be more excited since it was my first experience acting in a leading role.
