The Top Ten Trends of Fall 2024
With autumn just around the corner, it is time to transition our summer wardrobes in preparation for the cooler weather. Ready-to-wear runway collections and influencer styles in recent months have defined the season’s trends. Here are the top ten trends for Fall 2024.
1. Chartreuse
After a lively neon green Brat summer, it is time to tone it down, while still keeping greens in our wardrobe. To transition from this vibrant shade, incorporate chartreuse and yellow greens to include some muted, but intriguing color to your fall wardrobe.

2. Oxblood
Chartreuse is not the only color making its way into our style this fall as Oxblood is also making a bold statement this season. While the burgundy shade has always been central to the fall color palette, this year, more fashion houses like Chloé and Alexander McQueen have featured the dark color in their fall ready-to-wear collections.

3. Bootcut Jeans
We are not quite ready to reintroduce skinny jeans into our daily denim just yet, but the pendulum is surely swinging back to a slimmer silhouette. Bootcut jeans achieve a sleek look without the full commitment to a skinny jean, while also adding a slight 70’s flair to any outfit.

4. Shrunken Cardigans
The mini cardigan has long been a staple for the “office siren” aesthetic, but last year’s Miu Miu fall show highlighted the inevitable resurgence of the lightweight cashmere fitted cardigan into the mainstream. Stars like Chloe Sevigny wore the Miu Miu gray cardigan in her Vogue “Life In Looks” YouTube video. The fitted cardigan trend is widely available, whether you are shopping second-hand or through online retailers.

5. Chunky Knit Turtlenecks
On the flip side of the fitted cardigan, the chunky sweater is a prevalent item this fall. Tommy Hilfiger showcased a beige oversized turtleneck sweater in their Ready-to-Wear collection, demonstrating the appeal of thicker knits. As many seek to build a more sustainable and timeless closet, a vintage fisherman sweater will add warmth and style this season.

6. Tailored Suiting
In the same vein of slimmer jeans and fitted cardigans, tailored suiting is making a strong appearance this fall, especially in formal wear. The oversized blazer is now giving way to a more structured and well-constructed look that accentuates the waist and adds a bit of 80’s edge with tasteful shoulder pads.

7. Canadian Tuxedos
Canadian tuxedos are a classic in some eyes; however, more people will begin to embrace the all-denim look this fall. To transition from summer to autumn, switch out lighter chambray pieces for a darker, thicker denim. A western-style belt and a tall Frye boot will complement the denim-on-denim ensemble.

8. Mixed Flannel
Flannel is undeniably a core fall trend, but this season, expect to see funkier and mismatched flannel patterns styled together. The brand Chopova Lowena has been a leader in this look since it was founded in 2017, focusing on punk-esque plaid skirts with leather and mixed metals. The mixture of flannel will add a vibrant edge to more minimal outfits this fall.

9. “Ludicrously Capacious” Brown Bags
Oversized bags have been on trend for the past few years, but this year, designers are releasing new silhouettes in different tan shades in hopes of creating the next “it” bag. The Row’s Margaux bag and the Dragon Diffusion woven bag are currently leading the charge.

10. Studs
Following the immense popularity and “dupes” of the Ganni Feminine Buckle Ballerinas, studs are set to peak this fall on all articles of clothing. Look out for the Adidas Wales Bonner Samba sneakers adorned with studs, as well as leather jackets accented with silver metal.

This fall’s most prominent themes evolve from the trends of summer, but transform them into more subdued styles. As we shift away from oversized, baggy silhouettes, we are embracing a more minimal, yet edgy aesthetic. Expect to find that following seasons will continue to incorporate these trends as we move toward a style that is reminiscent of early 2010s fashion.
