The World of Jacquemus
Simon Porte Jacquemus has designed and sculpted the essence of romantic minimalistic style. Heavily inspired by his Southern French roots, Jacquemus is an interpretation of Parisian fashion and the definition of contemporary European lifestyle. The designs invoke a variety of playful colors and cutouts combined with simple minimalistic class, and the runway shows take fashion lovers to some of the most beautiful destinations across the globe. Back in 2009, Simon Porte Jacquemus began his journey into the fashion industry but he has created more than just the perfect Parisian piece, Jacquemus has crafted a timeless core aesthetic in the fashion world.
Let’s take a stroll down lavender lane, nestled in Provence stretching beyond the horizon Valensole’s lavender fields were the backdrop of Jacquemus spring/summer 2020 show. Models walked an accented fuschia runway, the collection embodied summertime with gigantic straw hats, pastel greens, vibrant yellows and pinks. The 2020 collection was titled, “Le Coup De Soleil” meaning “sunburn” in French — the aptly name behind the vision surely encapsulated the 10th anniversary artistry of the 65 piece collection.
Jacquemus took a trip to the islands for the spring/summer 2022 “Le Splash” collection, the first show to take place outside his home of France. The lushness and natural beauty of Oahu, Hawaii was the scenery for SS22, with a miles-long bright blue sandy catwalk and towering palm trees Jacquemus never falls short of making a splash. The guest list was kept exclusive with only a handful of A-list celebs including SZA and Bad Bunny, the runway was primarily walked by local models of Hawaii who beautifully encompassed the ‘Le Splash” collection. Models arrived on boat wearing a kaleidoscope of colors — greens, pinks and aquatic blues of towel inspired material and mesh cut outs all summer activity ready. Shortly after SS22, the world gasped once more for the breathtaking location of Jacquemus Fall 2022. Fashion took a trip to a place that looked like you landed on the moon, returning to his roots Jacquemus landed in the salt mountains of the Camargue Park in the South of France with a carved runway winding down the salt hilltop. Unlike his usual vibrant pieces, Jacquemus Fall 2022 collection was almost like a beautiful blank canvas finessed with drapes and texture. Wind whipping through hair and the dancing of models, this show was as it looks — out of this world.
Jacquemus celebrated the 15th anniversary of the brand on June 10, 2024 with a clifftop Capri, Italy runway, unveiling a commemorative spring/summer collection with Black Pink’s Jennie Kim as the center muse to close the show. “La Casa” was nothing less than exquisite, in an Instagram post Jacquemus wrote, “I decided to create my brand after watching ‘Le Mépri’ from Jean-Luc Godard, being inspired by the beauty and modernity of his vision. Today I feel honored to be able to present our next show in Casa Malaparte.” 99 steps, 47 looks, 40 guests and 1 beautiful dream at Casa Malaparte, Jacquemus’ collection was bathed in italian sunlight and models dazzled in romantic mid-length dresses and colorful silk scarves paired with chic shades. Amongst the star studded guestlist, Popstar Dua Lipa arrived via the azure sea on a boat (which is very Italian inspired). Gwyneth Paltrow, Tina Kunakey and Imaan Hammam were also in attendance in selected Jacquemus pieces, each ascending the 99 steps for the classic Jacquemus social media moment, “Bonjour.” The silhouettes, zebra prints (which Jacquemus is making a comeback for) and a timeless black dress accessorized with statement bags worn by Jennie Kim was the perfect collection for a Mediterranean backdrop.
Simon Porte Jacquemus did not stop there, Vogue asked him to reinterpret his collection “Les Parasols De Marseille” and custom pieces for the Vogue World show in Paris, France just a few weeks after the show in Capri. Singer Sabrina Carpenter walked the Vogue World show and looked like a stunning pinup girl in a red and white striped piece dedicated to the 40s and swimwear. It is moments like these that continuously showcase the artistry and genius of Jacquemus, between the unforgettable locations, sensual minimalism and artful construction Simon Porte Jacquemus wears the crown for the king of the runway.
