A newfound program of innovation, interaction, and instruction, CHANEL will launch a learning program called “CHANEL & CINEMA - TOKYO LIGHTS Tokyo’s Brightest Talents.” The program, a monumental collaboration with CHANEL and global film director Hirozaku Koreeda, will feature a masterclass on November 27th-28th at Waseda University’s Okuma Auditorium.

“CHANEL & CINEMA - TOKYO LIGHTS Tokyo’s Brightest Talents” seeks to advocate the inventiveness, originality, and visionary talents of upcoming filmmakers.

Hirozaku Koreeda is a renowned film director who has been recognized by the Cesar Awards, Asian Film Awards, and Japan Academy Prize. At the 2018 Cannes Film Festival for Shoplifters, he won the Palme d’Or. His works include Monster, Broker, Our Little Sister, The Third Murder, and more.

Hirokazu Koreeda stated, “I was looking for a partner who would help me develop young talent, with an eye to the film industry 10 or 20 years from now. From now on, I will pool my wisdom together with Chanel to provide a place for new encounters. I want to make this an exciting project."

The mentorship program’s masterclass will hold panels with Hirokazu Koreeda, director Miwa Nishikawa, actress and ambassador Tilda Swinton, and more CHANEL figures. Workshops will also be held for future filmmakers to gain hands-on insight into the film industry. These workshops will equip individuals to participate in a short film competition, where CHANEL will sponsor the top three films.

These individuals will also be able to create a vast network of film industry professionals.

CHANEL has been supporting the cinema industry since Gabrielle Chanel founded the brand. Gabrielle formed friendships with film directors, leading her to design cinematic costumes for films, institutions, and festivals. CHANEL continues to pay homage to its founder by appreciating the film industry.
