Vogue World has made its triumphant return to Paris! This past June, Vogue honored 100 years of French fashion and sport. Vogue highlighted the history of French fashion, as well as giving a nod to the Summer Olympics in Paris.

Now, let’s get into the details of the event, shall we? VogueWorld has been an ongoing event that celebrates fashion and sport: its history, the entirety of the industry, and everything else that each encompasses. The event paired each decade of sport with fashion, beginning with the 1920s until the 2010s. Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour, gave a quick detail of the event by saying: “Paris will be a kind of opening ceremony; one that celebrates 100 years of fashion and sport, as well as this extraordinary city…”, during a press conference this past February. For the star studded event, held in the Place Vendôme, there was a variety of runway shows, red carpet events, and musical performances. It genuinely was the place to be, and a great way to kick off the exciting events for the summer ahead.

Along with the show came some red carpet events and parties to celebrate! Celebrities in all realms (from sports, to fashion, to entertainment), were graciously invited for the event. Some familiar celebrities from the event include Emma Chamberlain, Sabrina Carpenter, Joey King, Alexa Chung, Cara Delevingne, Jared Leto, Diplo and the list goes on. Moving on, here is a recap of the entire show in case you missed it!

The 1920s – Cycling

The show began with a beautiful performance from Aya Nakamura, as waiters danced around the venue, with cyclists soon following behind. This gave a nod to a race held in France, for waiters to run around the city balancing trays, as well as the sport of cycling and The Tour de France. While this happened, models walked in 1920’s inspired Chanel dresses, shining a spotlight on the “Roaring 20s”. Some celebrities that walked were FKA Twigs (in Alexandre Vauthier) and Jemery Pope and Maluma (in Thom Browne).

The 1930s – Track & Field

For the 1930s portion of the show, it featured models wearing large gowns that were recreations of Balanciaga’s first Paris collection. The models, including Karlie Kloss, walked around the venue in looks from designers like Balenciaga, Maison Margiela, and Schiaparelli. While these looks hit the “runway”, Keiona Revlon performed while a medley of track-stars whipped past.

The 1940s – Aquatics

For the 1940s, it brought a nautical/summertime theme to highlight aquatic sports (and the creation of the bikini in 1946). While dancers performed in swimwear and blue goggles, Jacquemus’s pool-side inspired collection walked the runway, along with looks from Miu Miu, Chanel, and Jean Paul Gaultier. A-listers like Kate Upton and Sabrina Carpenter popped up in this segment, sporting swimwear and summertime ensembles.

The 1950s – Equestrian

With Dior’s new looks, elements of the equestrian uniforms meshed seamlessly. While looks from Dior circled the venue, Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner sported matching ensembles from Hermes while riding horseback! Some athletes also walked during this segment like Joe Burrow (of the Cincinnati Bengals) and Justin Jefferson (of the Minnesota Vikings), both wearing Peter Do.

The 1960s – Fencing

André Courrèges and Paco Rabanne looks kicked off the 1960’s, with the space age inspired designs. With a dance performance from Teyana Taylor, models walked in metallic and all-white designs for this section. Alongside Teyana Taylor were groups of fencers, with professionals like Laura Flessel-Colovic and Miles Chamley-Watson, to highlight the sport!

The 1970s – Gymnastics

For the 1970s section, gymnasts twirled and flipped around the venue with brightly colored ribbons. As for the fashion, the idea was to highlight pure color, with flowing neon colored looks. With looks from Givenchy, it gave a nod to the nightlife of Paris and Studio 54. The runway lineup featured celebrities like Ciara and Ashley Graham, sporting vibrant, flowing gowns.

The 1980s – Martial Arts

To the sound of beating drums, the 1980s section showcased martial artists of karate, taekwondo, and other mixed martial arts. Structured and dark designs from Saint Laurent and Balmain walked the venue as the martial artists showed their talents. Some celebrities also walked the runway, like Pom Klementieff and Katy Perry, as well as Anoi Kai wearing a re-interpretation of the iconic tricolor Alaïa dress (created by Pieter Mulier).

The 1990s – Football

The 1990s highlighted the sport of football, honoring France’s first World Cup in 1998. As a performance from Bad Bunny happened, members of the Paris Île-de-France Football League kicked soccer balls and did fun tricks. Layered and elaborate designs, inspired by football uniforms, from Balenciaga, Balmain, and Mugler traveled around the venue as well.
