WANT! Boxers Over Briefs

As the spring months continue to melt into summer, it’s time to switch out of thick winter jackets and boots to t-shirts and sneakers. Boxer shorts, the new cool-girl trend, is here to save some sweat when it’s too sticky to consider struggling into a pair of jean shorts. Adding boxer shorts to the summer rotation is a way to add an extra level of personality to the perfect casual slick-back bun look for the farmers market or lean wholly into the most eclectic of grandpa styles to go thrifting.

Wearing boxers outside of the house is different from the conventional choice, so for those wanting to test the waters of underwear for day-to-day, the Reformation Billy Short is the perfect pair to try out. The simplicity of the solid options can easily make these boxers mistaken for an ordinary pair of shorts. Still, the button detail in the front adds a level of lassies-faire to the look only available from shorts inspired by tighty-whities.

These boxers from Monrow, Comme Si, and Polo Ralph Lauren capture the essence of a relaxed summer by being lightweight and fun with color and pattern choices. The detail of the patch on the waistband or the seams of the shorts themselves highlights the boxer style, which gives room to play into this tongue-in-cheek style with oversized t-shirts and sweaters, crew socks and clogs, and even trucker hats and baseball caps.

For those who don’t have the luxury of being in their underwear all day, there are still ways to get cozy in boxers without looking like pants were left behind. The A.L.C Rae Cotton Boxer Short and the John Eliott Leisure Poplin Short have that effect while still being able to dress them up for the day with sandals and a nice sweater or basic shirt.

Whether boxers as a day-to-day choice for shorts is a liberating or terrifying idea, everyone can agree that nothing screams luxury louder than a silk pajama set. Silk boxers like the Comme Si Classica in Silk take that idea and run with it by reimagining them for the summer.
