Rahne Jones
One of my favorite shows is The Politician and Rahne Jones plays Skye Leighton, who is smart, opinionated, and strong. Over the summer I got caught up with Season 2 of the show and am anxiously awaiting Season 3, but it seems we need to wait until Payton returns for his Vice Presidential campaign, a little ways down the road since he just became NY State’s Senator. The show’s all-star studded cast is a must see to get caught up and watch if you haven’t.
This cover issue includes an interviews with Fluide, gender fluid makeup brand that we used on the cover shoot for Rahne and the unisex clothing brand, Official Rebrand.

1. Please introduce yourself.
Hi, my name is Rahne (pronounced Ronnie) Jones.
2. Where are you from and where are you currently located?
I’m originally from Silver Spring, MD, but I’ve lived in NYC for almost five years now. I love this place so much!
3. Can you tell us a little bit about The Politician and your role as Skye Leighton?
Sure thing! The Politician is a satirical show about the crazy world of politics and the people who inhabit it. It centers around Payton Hobart, played by the amazing Ben Platt, who has an aspiration to be the President of the United States one day. Each season focuses on an election that he’s involved in and how he deals with all the mayhem that ensues.
I play Skye Leighton who starts off as one of Payton’s nemesis. Skye is smart, opinionated, strong, and is ruthless in the best way in my humble opinion.
4. When playing Skye Leighton, is there a challenge you have to face?
Skye is an extremely passionate person, and that passion has led to some questionable decisions. Skye cares about A LOT, especially marginalized communities and her expression of that passion is not always on the up and up. Her cause is just, but her execution is a little off, but I get it lol.
5. If you were a viewer of the series, how would you describe Skye Leighton?
I would describe Skye as an unapologetic, by any means necessary, type of person. I think in season 1 viewers saw Skye as a villain and rightfully so. But I think in season 2, we got to see Skye be more pragmatic and much more of a team player focusing on a common goal.
6. Who inspired you to pursue a career as an actor?
I’ve always loved watching people perform. I’m in awe of Viola Davis, Meryl Streep, Regina King, Bette Davis, and Barbara Stanwyck. The list is endless. However, for a long time I didn’t have the courage to try for myself. My mother inspired me in that respect. She’s not an actor, but she worked in corporate America for 30 plus years before walking away at 50 to pursue her passion, which was teaching. She went back to school and got her master’s degree and now she’s an assistant principal. My mom went after her dream and she absolutely inspired me to go after mine.
7. Do you have any upcoming projects you would like to share with us?
I have some things in the works, but I can’t really speak on them quite yet.
8. Do you have any hobbies or interests you’ve developed when you’re not working?
YES! I actually created my own little Instagram TV show called After School History. It’s what I’d call a micro-show (because the episodes are really short) focusing on history lessons we weren’t taught in school. It’s been really cathartic for me and really fun to do in the midst of all this mess. I’m a huge history lover so this was a welcomed distraction. Episodes drop every Monday at 3pm EST @afterschoolhistory!!
9. What is your motto in life?
“You only pass this way once; you gotta give it all you can.” The amazing John Lewis said that, and it couldn’t be truer.
10. Instagram handle?
