Lovi Poe
Born in Quezon City, Philippines, Lovi Poe, daughter of the late action star Fernando Poe Jr., is an established singer, actress, and model. She just released her latest single and music video LOST. Coming this August, Lovi will release another single and her long awaited new EP. As an actress, she is best known for her role in the film Mayohan and the drama series Bakekang. Traveling back and forth from her home in the Philippines to Los Angeles, she has taken a step forward into focusing on her music career after having multiple films (such as Woke Up Like This and Malaya) released in the Philippines this past year.

At what age did you first start working in the entertainment industry? What about the industry did you enjoy the most?
I started when I was around 15. The craft itself is what I enjoy doing the most. The fact that I get to do what I love and call it “work” is truly a blessing.
How was it seeing your father have such a prominent role within the industry? Did this affect you in any way?
The legacy he left behind always reminds me to keep my feet flat on the ground. Although there was pressure in the beginning I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m vastly different from my father and that trying to fill in his shoes or following his footsteps was never my path. Although in every step I make I draw inspiration from him and salute him in every way, emancipating myself from the thought of being his daughter is one of the best things I’ve done because I get to enjoy just being myself in the industry we both live in.

Can you tell us about your upcoming EP that's set to release in August? Where did you find inspiration within your creative process?
They say you never forget about your first love and that’s the case for me. Music has always been my first love. Although I’ve become more of an actress back home, and without a doubt fell completely in love with it. There’s always that void that only music can fill. I guess being truly attached to it from the beginning is where I get inspiration.

How does your home in the Philippines compare to the LA lifestyle? What do you love most about both places?
I love both places in different ways. The Philippines gives me that sense of comfort and happiness. It’s familiar and I’m used to it. Everyone’s one calls or is just a drive away and bam! you’re with the one’s you call home. In an instant. LA is the complete opposite for me. It’s beautiful and sunny but far away from comfort. You can draw happiness from edgy situations too. It’s a matter of perspective. Seeing new versions of yourself is part of growth. Here, I’m in the process of learning to be comfortable being.

You recently released your single Under. What about that whole process of creating the song to shooting for its music video, did you enjoy the most?
Having Ømen (producer) and Jess Fee (music video director) on our team is the best part. They’re incredible artists and having people like them on board is a dream. “Under" wouldn’t sound as catchy and the music video wouldn’t be as amazing without the ones who sprinkled magic on it.

Do you have plans to broaden your market into the US? How do you feel about that? Being inspired and inspiring a wider audience is such a lovely thing to do. I don’t mind doing more of this. :)
If you weren't working in the music and film industry, what would you be doing?
I took up psychology back in the day. Right now, I can’t imagine myself doing anything else, but I guess that’s a different path that I could’ve taken had I not made the decisions that lead me here.

Who do you idolize as a singer? There are a lot of people I admire. Of course, there are singer songwriters I look up to like Sara Bareilles , Carmody and Eloise. Dua Lipa in the pop world. And there’s Regine Velasquez back home.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years, in either your personal or professional career?
What we “love” evolves through time. I’m blessed enough to be doing what I’m passionate about right now. I pray that whatever it is that makes my heart flutter 10 years from now I’ll be holding with both hands.
