What is your favorite memory from your time filming the cult classic film Nacho Libre?
The whole shooting of the film is a great memory. Filming in Oaxaca, going to the market. The food and, of course, Jack , Jared , Mike and the whole team were incredible. Sweet, fun, and super easygoing. Few movies feel so effortless.

In your show ANA several characters identify as a part of the LGBTQ+ community, offering on screen representation for those marginalized communities. As a public supporter of the community, why do you feel it is so important to vocalize your solidarity?
I never thought of it in terms of declaring support to it. It’s just my life, the persons who are my friends, family, and just presenting the world that I leave in as is.

In 2008, you were the face of Covergirl worldwide. What is the most important part of your makeup routine?
I think what it is really important it’s to find a makeup foundation that really matches your skin and to be aware of the weather or the place you are going to look the more natural possible.

In several of your roles such as Maria Cruz in “Army of the Dead” and Elisa Alvarez in “Narcos,” you portray such badass women with guns, explosions, and other happenings. What are some of the most exciting parts of playing these characters?
To be honest, watching the result on screen is the best part for me, because on set you have to be  careful not to hurt you or anyone else.

You’ve attended countless red-carpet events. What is one of your all-time favorite looks you've worn?
I think the red carpet for “Cowboys and Aliens” is my favorite.

Being such an influential figure across both Mexico and America, what advice can you give to today’s youth that you wish your younger self knew?
Sometimes I feel I don’t have enough time to learn more about things. Let’s say, a language, or  learn how to play an instrument , learn more about cinema. So, when you are young you have all the time in the world. I would advise on that.

Going back to the initial stages of your career, what has been your favorite telenovela to film?
They are all special but I think “Todo por Amor” was my favorite.

In 2010, you founded the non-profit organization VeraCruzANA following the damages of Hurricane Karl, and you continue to create programs to stimulate the growth and support of the local community. What made you want to give back to the community you grew up in?
It was something that I never thought of doing. It was more a need from just looking at all the disaster and how it was going to be difficult  for people with no resources to recuperate. So having the support and trust from a lot of people made me do it.

What are some of your future plans for the organization?
Keeping going. It’s been 12 years and it just works great. The museum and workshops are constantly available and people in La Antigua benefit from it.
