Chase Shuman NYFW Spring 2024: Celebrates the Beauty of Nature & Sustainability

On September 11, 2023, New York Fashion Week gained a new talent: Chase Shuman, a recent graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design where he studied menswear. After taking a year off from designing to work an office job due to the global pandemic, he created a brand full of life and originality. His clothes are ones you can feel good about wearing. To ensure his brand also celebrates the beauty of nature and reflects his passion for sustainability, he intends to make limited runs and produce his pieces ethically.

Shuman’s Spring 2024 collection is inspired by the natural flow of emotions and the vision was clear. Perhaps playing on the idea of the delicate intricacy of emotions, the most common recurring motif was sheer layering: skirts, trench coats, jackets, tank tops, and even pants. The most amazing on-theme piece was a sheer, asymmetrical top being held together by safety pins. The fragility and unexpectedness perfectly capture a collection inspired by the complexity and progression of human emotions.

New York Fashion Week collections are always exciting, but there’s something particularly electric about a new designer. Shuman’s collection is fresh and uninhibited, not influenced by market trends or what the consumer liked best last season. It’s fashion pure and simple, and that’s when the real magic happens.
