It’s been a big year for toy company Mattel. The obvious blockbuster success Barbie and rumors of other toy related movies created hype for the decades old brand. Now they’re taking their spookiest doll and making it couture in the Off-WhiteTM c/o Monster High collaboration, just in time for Halloween. Though a four-piece doll collection may seem odd for a unique high fashion brand like Off-WhiteTM, the brand views, “Monster High is the ideal partner for a new collaboration built on a shared spirit of nonconformity.”

Championed by the late, Virgil Abloh, these four original dolls are dressed in ‘monsterfied’ versions of iconic Off-WhiteTM designs from seasons past. “Abloh’s inspiration originated from his long-standing desire to explore the world of toys, driven by his close relationship with his children. Despite his prolific career in collaborations, his projects with Mattel marked his first foray into toys, highlighting his innovative spirit. Abloh was intrigued by the unique appeal of Monster High, characterized by its fresh take on street-inspired style and strong embrace of individuality,” says Mattel.

The debut doll from this collection is named Electra Melody, a sea monster who wears a complete Spring 2018 runway look, mismatched gloves and plastic wrapped Jimmy Choo shoes included. She also carries the Barrow 22 shoulder bag, a mainstay for the brand that’s a perfect add on to the monsterfied doll look. The other three dolls include Harmonie Ghoul,  a franken-monster, Raven Rhapsody, a gargoyle, and Symphanee Midnight, a specter spirit. Harmonie Ghoul wears a tiered checkered dress from Off-WhiteTM’s Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear collection, styled with red knee-high boots like the real-life model who first wore the look. To complete the outfit, the doll wears the Burrow 20 chain-link shoulder bag and Off-White earrings under her space buns. Raven Rhapsody’s ensemble is the complete runway look from Off-WhiteTM’s Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear collection, with the addition of enormous wings on her back and horns protruding from her hat.

The last doll released in this collection is Symphanee Midnight, who wears the opening piece from Off-WhiteTM’s Fall 2020 Ready-to-Wear runway show. This extravagant all black ball gown is the perfect backdrop for the doll’s long green hair, green chain-link jewelry, and Jitney 1.4 bag.

Priced at $150, these dolls are definitely a collector’s item. Electra Melody sold out almost instantly online and is only available for purchase at five Off-WhiteTM flagship locations: Miami, New York City, Las Vegas, Paris, and Milan. The other three dolls will become available on the Mattel website in the coming months.

Off-WhiteTM is yet another brand for Mattel to add to its list of fashion collaborators as they rack up Barbie collaborations with Moschino, Karl Lagerfield, Balmain, etcetera. Perhaps this four-doll series will bring more admiration for the hauntingly chic world of Monster High, and more high fashion brands will want to dress them in tiny clothes.
