Rising R&B Pop Artist Deney Adam To Release Debut EP ‘RED LIGHTS’ Out Now!
“Deney Adam turns to pleasure as a guide through times of chaos and grief.” - METAL
“It’s refreshing to have a modern R&B act lean unabashedly into what Deney himself calls ‘baby making music.’’ - Queerty
AUGUST 10, 2023 (NEW YORK CITY) - Fashion-forward R&B pop artist Deney Adam is known for creating sensual and soulful tracks that take listeners on a journey through his experiences of grief and toxic relationships. Wrapped in a futuristic R&B sound, Deney invokes his artistic influences like The Weeknd, Banks, and Sevdaliza. All of Deney’s influences and experiences come together like a vibrant collage on his smash debut EP, Red Lights out August 10.
The acclaimed queer artist began meticulously crafting the EP in 2020 and describes it as his “release from the past”, chronicling the ups and downs of loss and how he discovered himself in the process. Deney says, “My EP Red Lights closes a chapter of my life that has shaped who I am today--but the journey was devastatingly difficult. I dealt with homelessness, death, drugs, and a toxic relationship, all within a 5-year period. When you’re living in it, you’re not thinking about it…but looking back and expressing everything I experienced through music has helped me to be so proud of myself and see how far I’ve come. Turning this pain into music has made it all worth it. I want listeners to know there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel.”
Red Lights features supremely personal and heavy R&B tracks like the title track and “Ready”--two of the first singles Deney released from the project and featured in Ladygunn, Get Out, and Photobook. On the soulful and sensual song “HEADDOWN”, (which was named a “best new track of the week” by Queerty) Deney reminds listeners (and himself) to look up to the sky and keep moving toward that north star. The EP takes a cocky turn with the Calypso-inspired track, “No Reward”, influenced by his West Indian heritage and calls listeners to the dance floor with the bombastic “Just Dance.” Deney also reimagines the classic Usher song, “My Way” accompanied by a sultry and empowering music video set for release August 10th.
Deney's love for music began in church at age 3. Originally from St. Maarten, Deney's musical style flourished after moving stateside, with exposure to NYC's famed house music, a tinge of pop and R&B influences. After becoming an accomplished celebrity makeup artist, Deney utilized the professional downtime of 2020 to fully dive into making the music that called upon his heart.
Deney will celebrate the release of Red Lights with an EP Release Party presented by Ladygunn on August 9th from 6PM-9PM at Blonde + Co (34 WEST 27TH STREET, 8TH FLOOR). The event will feature live performances by Deney, Nisha, Corey Streets, Daiburger, and DJ Bobby Maddox.
