Sky Katz

Sky Katz, a young actress and musician, is 17 years old. She is known for her role as the firecracker next-door neighbor Tess on Disney Channel’s Raven’s Home, the spinoff of That’s So Raven. In 2021 Sky was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for the memorable role. At age 11 her musical talents brought her to the stage of America’s Got Talent’s 11th season, on which she impressed judges and audiences with her rapping skills and freestyle. In addition to releasing her own music and music videos through her YouTube channel, she is also the star of Netflix’s new series Surviving Summer. Expelled from school and sent to live with family friends in a tiny coastal town on the Australian coast, Summer Torres (Katz), a rebel New York teen, makes waves among a young surfer's inner circle and leaves a mess in her wake. Recently Sky dropped her latest song “Why Did You Call?”

How old were you when you first started acting and what drew you to acting?
I was 10 years old when I started to take acting lessons. At the time I loved to play other characters and pretend to be someone else. Today I still feel the same way and love it even more.

What did you enjoy about working on Surviving Summer? Are you interested in doing similar work in the future or do you want to branch out even more?
I really enjoyed working on Surviving Summer. Filming in Australia on their beautiful beaches was such a privilege. The cast and crew were also amazing. I hope to go back and play Summer Torres for many more seasons. I would also love to take on other roles in film and TV.

In addition to acting, you also make great music. When did you start making music and writing songs?
Around 10 years old I started to write and perform music. It’s always been a way for me to express myself creatively.

Where do you get your inspiration for your songs?
I get inspiration from the music that I am currently listening to, things going on in my life, and in the world, and thoughts about topics that I have.

You create music videos for many of your songs as well. What is your process for making them? Do you want to continue to direct your own or prefer to have a team collaborate with you?
When making a music video I start by brainstorming on my own of some ideas and visions for the video. After I have an idea of what I want, I sit down with a director and collaborate our thoughts and how we can bring my vision to life. I always want to play an important role in making my videos but I also appreciate the knowledge of more seasoned creators.

Do you have a preference between music and acting? What are your goals for both in the coming years?
I love music and acting equally. I hope to be able to do both for many, many years to come. My goals are to film numerous seasons of Surviving Summer, as well as making music and touring so that I can play my music and perform live and interact with the people who enjoy listening to it.

Do you have any upcoming projects in the works for us to get excited about?
I’m currently working on some great songs and videos to go along with them. I’m really excited and think people will love them.
