The North Face x UNDERCOVER Collaboration
The North Face, a powerhouse in the world of outdoor gear, released their new collaboration on October 24 with UNDERCOVER. UNDERCOVER, created by Japanese designer Jun Takahashi, is known for its avant-garde vision and strong roots in streetwear.
This new collection, titled “Soukuu” blends UNDERCOVER’s striking style with The North Face’s most advanced tech so you can brave the cold weather without sacrificing function for style. The range, according to The North Face, “embodies a free spirit and an empowering ‘search of emptiness.'” The North Face said the collection was “guided by the quiet confidence of nature” and “was born from the balance of calm and chaos.” The materials selected for include some of The North Face’s innovative technology, including Futurefleece, Cloud Down, and Dotknit, staples from their flagship Summit Series and Advanced Mountain Kit Performance line.
“We’ve never done something so technical in the collab space,” says David Whetstone, The North Face design director for global collaborations and energy.
“They were able to bring that really fashion forward eye to the collection,” said The North Face global product manager of performance Laura Akita, talking about what UNDERCOVER brought to the table.
“Jun, he’s got a really playful way of working with material, working with silhouette and reimagining things” Akita continues.
“You see that punk undercurrent in a lot of his work where he just is able to really understand the innate qualities in a garment, in its construction, and then work to exploit those and turn them on their heads.”
