Urban Outfitters x True Religion: A Dedication to the 2000s
The 2000s aesthetic is back and better than ever at Urban Outfitters. A new and exciting collaboration between Urban Outfitters and True Religion has been released online at UrbanOutfitters.com. The Gen Z retailer has a partnership with the early 2000s brand to launch a womenswear capsule collection. The collection holds a range of products from denim jeans, miniskirts, and baby tees to sweatshirts and outerwear. The products also come in a range of sizes from XXS to XXL, making it available to all customers. With the collection being inspired by the staples of True Religion Denim, Urban Outfitters keeps the “Y2K aesthetic” alive for the younger generations.
Keeping in True Religion fashion, the products in the collection give a nod to the classic designs and logos of the brand. Jim Kushner, True Religion’s EVP, stated, “We’re excited about the partnership with Urban Outfitters given their customer base and our ability to connect True Religion with a broader range of shoppers, including younger Gen Z consumers.” This collection brings the early 2000s into this generation of shoppers, showing that vintage clothing can be a great thing. It allows a new generation to add variety into their closets, and experiment with classic brands in the daily wardrobe. Laura Deady, senior merchandiser and buyer of Urban Outfitters, stated that the collection “features of-the-moment silhouettes that found their footing in the 90s” and the “denim fabrications that True Religion is known for.” While the collection takes elements of the 90s silhouettes and iconic logos, it brings a fresh perspective on Y2K fashion, bringing it into this new generation.
Even though Urban Outfitters collaborates with many iconic brands, from clothing companies to footwear companies, the collaboration with True Religion is even more iconic. Not only is it bringing notice to younger generations, but it brings a sense of nostalgia for many consumers. True Religion dominated the fashion industry during the early 2000s and is still a well-loved brand. Bringing feelings of nostalgia into the capsule collection, along with styles from the time period, allows consumers to feel connection to the pieces. It also allows new consumers to appreciate both brands, letting younger generations realize how much of an impact True Religion has on the fashion world. Urban Outfitters did a wonderful job with intertwining recent and nostalgic fashion trends for this capsule collection, allowing the Y2K aesthetic to rush (and stay) in this new generation.
