Nigo and Verdy Unite to Create a SS24 Capsule Collection for Kenzo
In recent news in the realm of fashion collaborations, Kenzo Paris reached out to popular Japanese designer and artist Verdy, to create a limited release capsule collection for the French brand. Verdy, who is a longtime friend and colleague of Kenzo’s Artistic Director, Nigo, who is no stranger to streetwear, designing his own hit label “Girls Don’t Cry” as well as an impressive portfolio of previous collaborations.
The collection was teased during the brand SS24 runway in Paris in June, but the collection officially dropped on December 1st of last year. In addition to the collection releasing online, the pieces rolled out to consumers through two extravagant pop-up shops: starting December at the Champs-Élysées in Paris and finishing 10 Corso Como in Seoul.
The collaboration blends the modern structured style of Kenzo, with the more playful and vibrant style for which Verdy is known. The real highlight of the collection is Verdy’s instantly recognizable typeface synonymous with his label “Girls Don’t Cry” being used for a fun twist on the brand’s signature “Kenzo Paris” pieces. During the SS24 Runway show, Nigo expressed his previous caution for collaboration when it comes to his work with Kenzo. However, this collaboration feels personal given the long-standing friendship between Nigo and Verdy, and is a perfect way to push the “East meets West’ Direction that Nigo has been striving for the brand.
